Obituary of Robert D. Downey

DOWNEY, Robert "Downtown" Age 69 of Elmira, NY. He was born on December 30th, 1945 in St. Louis, MO and passed away on Sunday, August 9th, 2015. Bob is survived by his loving wife Suzanne; his children: Gerald, Therese, David, Keli, and Sarah; 12 grandchildren, Alex, Dusty, Maegan, Caitlyn, Noah, Lindsay, Camryn, Stephen, Angelina, Rylee, Skylar, and Jordan; 4 siblings and several nieces and nephews of the St. Louis area; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Helen Menechella and their sons, James and Brian. Bob was a Navy veteran and a corrections officer. He worked at both Elmira and Southport prisons where he will always be remembered for his unique way of bringing laughter to his fellow co-workers. He retired in 1999 from Southport and enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. Bob was an avid fan of his beloved St. Louis Cardinals "best team in baseball" and tried to never miss a game on TV. He and Sue spent a lot of time (and money) taking trips to various casinos; his favorite being Atlantic City. He also loved the horsetrack, especially Saratoga. But most of all he loved and cherished his family. Bob was a good, strong man and a wonderful provider and role model for his children and grandchildren. We will miss him more than words could ever say. Private services will be held. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the family.
