Obituary of Lois Ann Check

CHECK , Lois "Ann" Age 86, a lifelong resident of Elmira Heights, NY and recently of Guilderland, NY, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Myron Check. She is survived by her 5 children, Kathryn "Kit" Cole (Jim) of Gresham, OR; David Check (Linda) of Westfield, MA; Eleanor Salois (Joe) of Granbury, TX; Debra Check of Albany, NY and Maureen Tapler (Chris) of Guilderland, NY. She was the extremely proud grandmother of 9 college educated grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Ann had a family of friends whom she adored. She retired from NY Telephone in Elmira; was a member of American Legion Post 154 and a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church. Ann was known for her strength and independent spirit. She was fiercely dedicated to her children and extended family. Ann had a generous heart and a love for animals. She was a fun shopping partner too. You could always find her outside sitting on her swing in good weather. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, August 25th from 7 to 9 pm. Panikhyda will be at 7 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Wednesday, August 26th at 9:30 am, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 am in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rev. Robert Batcho, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 410 E.
