Obituary of Richard H. Palmer

PALMER, Richard Harold Age 87 of Elmira Heights, NY. He was born December 22, 1927 in Montour Falls, NY, son of the late Harold and Adie (Zimmer) Palmer and passed away Sunday September 27, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his sisters Betty Decker and Bonnie Kohlhaas. His survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Helen Mary; sons Mark (Patti) Palmer and Mike Palmer; daughters MaryJo (Mike) Houghtaling and Michelle Palmer; brother Robert (Barb) Palmer; sister Nancy (Vinnie) Doland; several grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Richard was an avid hunter, bowler, golfer and a Jack of all Trades who enjoyed the cabin that he built in the hills of VanEtten, NY. All family gatherings were enjoyed at his beloved cabin and company was always encouraged and welcomed. Richard retired from S.M. Flickinger. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday October 1st 11am to 1pm. His funeral service will be held at 1 pm. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Scotchtown Cemetery, Erin, NY. Family will provide flowers. Memorials in Richards name may be directed to Carefirst, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY 14870. His family would like to thank the staff at Arnot Ogden MC 4D, and the Chemung County Nursing Facility 6th floor staff for the wonderful care they provided to Richard.
