Debra Kinner

Obituary of Debra A. Kinner

KINNER, Debra A. (Piper) Age 60 of Elmira, NY. She was born August 6, 1955 in Elmira, NY, daughter of the late Donald Francis and Norma June (Wood) Piper and passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. In addition to her parents, Debra was predeceased by her brother, Richard D. Piper. She is survived by her children, Lisa M., John D., and Christopher D. Kinner; brothers, Lawrence M. (Sue) Piper, James E. (Carol) Piper, and Francis J. Piper; sister, Donna L. (Michael J.) Murphy; sister in law, Linda Piper, along with dear friend, Bart Kinner, her grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Deb was passionately dedicated to, and excelled at, every endeavor she chose to pursue. From athlete, where she received many honors and awards for softball, volleyball, and bowling, to student, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Human Services from Elmira College and graduated Magna Cum Laude, to her most cherished roles as mother and grandmother. Deb was an "under the radar" type of person who always offered unconditional support to others while she relished in showering others with attention. She shied away from receiving that attention herself. She appreciated and demonstrated a uniquely dry and witty sense of humor that brought light and laughter to any situation. She will be remembered as a loving, sweet and simple soul who never failed to bring comfort and happiness to those around her. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, on Sunday, May 1st, from 2 to 5 pm. Her funeral service will be held there on Monday, May 2nd, at 10 am. Committal and interment prayers will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery, Elmira. The family wishes to offer their gratitude for the exceptional care and treatment that Debra received from the staff at the Corning Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare.
