Obituary of Basil Dowzycky

DOWZYCKY, Basil Age 94 of Elmira, NY. He was born April 13, 1922 in Ukraine, son of the late Stefan and Maria (Durniak) Dowzycky and passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016. In addition to his parents, Basil was predeceased by his loving wife of 24 years, Euphrosine (Uhlak) Dowzycky, on August 7, 1970; along with his son, John Peter Dowzycky on December 7, 1988; and his brother, Michael Dowzycky, formerly of Elmira, in 1997. He is survived by his daughter, Maria (Tom) L'Amoreaux; son, Stephen (Vicki) Dowzycky; grandchildren, Mark (Julie) L'Amoreaux, Lissy (Chris Burkhalter) L'Amoreaux, Laurie (Greg Remy) L'Amoreaux, and Mary Grace Furtney; great grandchildren, Luke L'Amoreaux and Ella L'Amoreaux Remy; along with several nieces in the United States and dear family in Poland and Ukraine. Basil was a lifelong communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church; he served as a Trustee of the Church for 22 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and retired from Hardinge, Inc. in 1984 after 22 years. The passions of his life were his family and his church. He was also very proud of gaining his citizenship in the United States after arriving here in 1955. Family will conduct private services. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may donate in Mr. Dowzycky's name to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 410 E. McCanns Blvd, Elmira Heights, NY 14903. Walter J.
