Obituary of Kenneth Lee Mecum

MECUM, Kenneth Lee Age 75 of Town of Veteran, NY. He was born February 22, 1937 in Elmira, son of the late Lloyd Kenneth and Constance Barbara (Manning) Mecum and passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at home after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret (Palladino); daughters Karen Mecum with husband Lon Dewey and Mary Lynn (Reepie) Mecum both of Horseheads; grandchildren Sara Margaret Falco of Horseheads and Oswego, NY, Alexander Falco of Ft. Myers, FL, Zachary Dewey of Horseheads and Alek Dewey serving in the U.S. Marines in Okinawa, Japan; sister and brother-in-law Gwen and Harvey Hunt of Templeton, CA; sisters-in-law Lucille Fields of Zephyrhills, FL, Mary Buchtel of Horseheads, Alice (George) Gilboy of Zephyrhills, FL, and Dolores (Richard) Gould of Troy, MI; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins; special family friends Skyelar and Devon Williamson of Elmira. He was a graduate of Thomas Edison High School, Class of 1954; served in the U.S. Navy Reserves; was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 267 for 54 years as a journeyman pipefitter; a member of the NRA and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his farm. He was very proud of constructing the building for A Step Above, for his wife and daughter who were the original owners. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Sunday, December 23rd from 2 to 5 pm. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Ken through donations to the Millport Volunteer Fire Dept., 2016 Crescent St., Millport, NY 14864.
