Obituary of John Houpana

HOUPANA, John J. Age 67 of Elmira, NY returned to his heavenly Father on Sunday, December 25, 2016 after a valiant battle with an extended illness. John joined his loving mother Gertrude (Herrick) Houpana in heaven on Christmas morning. He is survived by his loving and devoted cousin Mary Theresa (Herrick) Jenkins along with her children Theresa Kemp, Cathleen Jenkins, Thomas (Linda) Jenkins, Michael (Joanne) Jenkins and their children who treated John as their own brother. John is also survived by several cousins both near and far. Before John's recent return to Elmira, he was a longtime resident at the Wabash IRA in Geneva, NY. Many thanks to all of his caregivers and his extended family both in Geneva and Watkins Glen, NY. John was very special to all of us and touched many hearts in his 67 years. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, December 29th from 6 to 8 pm. His funeral service will be held there on Friday, December 30th at 11 am. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in John's name to your local SPCA.
