CLARK, Verda Carlene

 

Age 88 of Corning, NY.

She was born July 22, 1928 in Richmond Hill, GA, daughter of the late March and Frances (Shulman) Scriven and went home to be with her Lord, on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. In addition to her parents, Carlene was predeceased by her loving husband of over 56 years, William, in 2004; brothers Edgar Scriven, Franklin Lucious Scriven, Joe Lee Scriven, William Benjamin Scriven; sisters Melessa Clark, Mary Rogers Barnes, Evelena Frazier, and Lucille Miller. She is survived by her son Robert William (Sharon L.) Clark Sr.; grandchildren Teresa (Charles) Gamble, Robert W. Clark Jr., Sharon D. Clark, Rodney B. Clark, Tyrone L. (Christine) Clark, Stephanie H. Clark; sister–in–law and brother-in-law Charles (LuLa Mae) Fuller, sister-in-law Mary Fulwood; her oldest niece MagaLene Jackson; special niece Vivian Clark (Sarah); cousin Willie Mae Duncan; along with a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Carlene is fondly remembered for both her sense of humor and for her habit of telling it like it is. Her faith ran deep and she avidly attended church for many years in Canaan Baptist Church in Richmond Hill before coming to St. Paul’s Missionary Baptist Church in Elmira. Family, friends and even strangers were better for encountering Carlene and her loving spirit. Her kind heart drew people together. She always said, “If you don’t have love, you don’t have nothing”. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Wednesday, June, 21, 2017 from 1 pm to 2 pm. Carlene will return home to Georgia to be laid to rest alongside her family.
