BURNSIDE, Betty M. (Smith)

 

Age 87 of Elmira Heights, NY.  She was born May 11, 1930 in Bradford, PA, daughter of the late George and Esther (Williams) Terry and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Elcor. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her son Lyle A. Smith Jr., her first husband, Lyle A. Smith Sr. along with her siblings, Joseph Navone, Tony Navone, and Anna Stanton.  She is survived by daughter in law, Carol Smith of Elmira; children Fred (Beverly) Smith of Gillett, PA, and Teri (Carlo) Masia of Pine City; grandchildren Pamela (Kendall) Carr of Gillett, PA, Deanna (Mark) Briggs of Bentley Creek, PA, Jessica Renner of Horseheads, Justin (Suzanna) Smith of Elmira, Dr. Nicholas Masia of Buffalo, NY, and Luca Masia of Pine City; 11 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; siblings Nettie Snyder of Muncy, PA, and Clara (Ray) Stone of Sayre, PA, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Betty was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish, attending Ss. Peter & Paul Church in Elmira, NY for many years. She retired from Anchor Glass in Elmira Heights and was a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Auxiliary, Post 154. Betty most enjoyed spending time with family. There were always bus trips for fundraisers and road trips to the casinos to look forward to. Betty’s family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff at Elcor Colonial Ridge East, CareFirst, and the New Falls Home in Montour Falls for everyone’s care and support that they gave to Betty over the years. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter & Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 161 High St., Elmira, NY, at 10 am on Monday, March 19th, 2018. Interment and committal prayers will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. In lieu of flowers those wishing may make a donation in Betty’s name to CareFirst, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, NY 14870-9509 or the Alzheimer’s Association, c/o Jeffery Collins, 435 East Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14620.  Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the family.
