Obituary of Bernette L Rollins
Reflections of Bernette (Lucian) Rollins Life
On Monday May 4, 2020, "Lucian" passed away after an extended illness. He was born on August 29, 1940 in New Canton, (Buckingham County), Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents, the late Cliff and Mary Gladys Rollins. He is survived by his loving wife, Lillie R. Rollins and their seven children. Michelle Thompson, Stone Mountain, GA. Paulette Harriel (Robert) of Stone Mountain, Ga, Grandchildren: Alexis, Cameron, Candice, Robert IV, and Reece, Bernette (Kim) of Hinesville, GA, Grandchildren: Arryck, Samantha, Veronica, Anthony, Andrew, Alek, Sibrina (Wayne) Washington of Elmira, NY, Grandchildren: Seth, Ulysses, and Jaydon, Jason Rollins (Courtney) of Phoenix, AZ, Grandchildren: Nautica, N'Chae, Nason, and Azyla., Sonja Williams of Dumphries, Va and Arthur Williams III of Elmira, NY: Grandchildren: Demetrius, Margrita, Arthur IV, Kelly. Brothers preceded in death, Walter, Herman, Charles Cliff, Claude Rollins and sister Qunnie Moss, Survived by brothers: Theodore (Deborah), Earl, Alfred (Deborah) and Truman Rollins, and sister Mable (Gene) Miles. Sister – in Laws, Shari A. Simmons and Margaret (Greg) Smith. Godsons, Arron Rollins and Roosevelt A. Simmons. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, not to mention a host of friends.
His education took place in the schools of New Canton Virginia. At the age of 18 he relocated to Long Island, NY for approximately one year, then moved to Elmira NY.
He was employed with Corning, Inc. for 43 years, retiring in 2002.
"Lucian", enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Always "the life of the party". He had such an infectious laughter that it brought tears to his eyes. Watching his old western movies was another one of his favorite pastimes. He was forever happy, joking, playing cards (especially spades).
He was an avid fisherman – "I caught one this big, but it got away". His all-time high was the men's annual fishing trips to the banks of the Thousand Islands.
His Memorial Celebration will be held on Saturday, August 29th, his 80th birthday, at Monumental Baptist Church, 1009 Maple Ave., Elmira at 1 pm. with Rev. Corey Cooke officiating
