Obituary of Bonnie L. Nielsen

Bonnie L. Nielsen, 78, passed away Saturday morning, August 1, 2020 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads New York. Bonnie was born October 7, 1941 in Bath, New York, the daughter of the late Elmer G. and Pauline H. (Hawkins) Nielsen. Bonnie graduated from Savona Central School in June 1959 and from Highland Hospital School of Nursing in September 1964. Bonnie developed a fondness and knack toward infant and childcare early in life and devoted the rest of her life to the care of others, especially "little ones". Her working days were spent as a Registered Nurse for the Ira Davenport Hospital, Shriners children's hospital, Brighton Hills Pediatrics, and as a Steuben County Public Health Nurse, which in her words, she enjoyed "very, very, much". Bonnie's compassion and Catholic faith, led her to become a nun of Sorelle Minori Maria Immacolata (Sisters Minor of Mary Immaculate), to travel to Italy, and to meet with Pope John Paul II, who became an inspiration and highlight of her life. Bonnie sought beauty in her surroundings, tea sets, clothing, art, and other decor with feminine flare. Beyond all prior hopes and aspirations for home, may she rest in the most beautiful and loving dwelling of all. Bonnie is survived by Peter Nielsen (her brother) and Bobbi Buss; Anthony and Wenona Liguori (her son and his wife); Tivon Liguori (her grandson); and Kristy and Pete "Petey" Nielsen (her niece and nephew). A private service will be held by the family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.walterjkent.com .
