Obituary of Mamie L. Thomas

THOMAS, Mamie L. Age 96 of Elmira, NY. She was born March 13, 1924 in Dansville, GA, daughter of the late Alton and Cora Lee (Smith) Nesbitt and passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Herbert Eugene Thomas in 1978; son Nathaniel Thomas who was killed in action in Vietnam; son Herbert Thomas, Jr. in 2004; she was the last surviving sibling of 7. She is survived by her daughters Juanita Spivey of Elmira, Shirley Thomas of Syracuse and Delphine Thomas of Stone Mountain, GA; brothers Roy (Mary) Nesbitt of Stone Mountain, GA, Rufus (Donna) Nesbitt of Greene, LA and Calvin Nesbitt of Dublin, GA; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren along with a host of great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Faith Temple Community C.O.G.I.C. serving on the Mothers board. She was a former member of All Saints Home C.O.G.I.C. She retired from A & P Foods in 1982 with 17 years of service and was a former employee of Second Place East. Family and friends are invited to visit Faith Temple Community Church, corner of Harper & Sullivan Sts. On Monday, December 7th from 12 to 1 pm. Her funeral service will be held at 1 pm. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. In adhering to COVID-19 protocol, masks and social distancing, along with reduced attendance will be strictly enforced.
