Nadia Melnik

Obituary of Nadia Melnik

Nadia Melnik May 15, 1920 – November 20, 2021. Nadia, also sweetly called Mama or Boonie, peacefully reposed in the Lord at the age of 101, in the comfort of her home, embraced by the love of her family. Her loving husband Alexandr fell asleep in the Lord in 1998. Nadia and her husband had 9 children. She has 4 surviving daughters: Maria "Manya" Turic (Michael); Olga "Ola" Stanton (Jim); Lyuba "Luba" Brown (Peter); Antonia "Toni" Weeks. Nadia has 14 wonderful grandchildren, and 12 beautiful great grandchildren, all of whom she adored greatly. An extraordinary woman, Nadia, born in Russia, struggled through famine, the Stalin regime, and the atrocities of concentration camps and more. Arriving in America in 1950 with her husband and three daughters, a new, promising life was born. Numerous times she mentioned that it was her deep spiritual faith in God that kept her strong on her journey through this life. Her highest priority was attending Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church. Also caring for her flowers and garden, reading and word puzzles. Nadia often burst into song or recited Russian rhymes and told stories. Always making time to be with her "Children" from the youngest to the oldest. Nadia, our Mama and Boonie, will be dearly missed, but she has joyfully taught us the love of family and faith. She will be forever in our hearts. Family and friends are invited to visit Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church, 140 Horseheads Blvd., Elmira Heights on Sunday, November 28th from 5 to 7:30 pm. Panykhyda will begin at 7:30 pm. Her funeral service will be held there on Monday, November 29th at 10 am. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted as Nadia loved her flowers, also those wishing may remember her through donations to her beloved Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church, 140 Horseheads Blvd., Elmira Heights, NY 14903.
