Obituary of Rita L. Castillo

In Loving Memory of Rita L. Castillo It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rita L. Castillo, aged 60, a cherished mother, Nana, daughter, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on April 3rd, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family and close friends. Born on January 6, 1965, in Washington, North Carolina, Rita's spirit was as vibrant as the flowers in spring, touching the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. For 30 years, Rita dedicated her talents and her heart to the Star-Gazette. Rita's greatest joy came from her role as a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving partner Daniel Baker, mother, Doris Carroll, and father, Herman Lewis, along with his partner, Deb. Rita was a loving sister to her siblings: Merle, Sarah, and Shawn. Rita was the proud mother of five wonderful children: Eric Castillo and his partner, Katie; Justin Castillo; Shelly Castillo; Michael Castillo; and Harrison Lewis, with his partner, Kara. Her legacy of love is carried on by her beautiful grandchildren: Taylor, Ayden, Riley, Delanie, Jaden, Josiah, Jaxson, Donovan, Myles, Makenna, Elise, Benjamin, Lyla, Emmett and great-grandson Weston. She was also a devoted fur mom to Nekah, Allie girl, and Dozer. As we gather to honor and celebrate Rita's beautiful life, family and friends are invited to a remembrance on Wednesday, April 9th, from 4 PM to 7:30 PM at the Pine City Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1463 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pine City, NY, 14871. In lieu of flowers, we invite everyone to bring a dish to share, as we come together to cherish our memories and the love that Rita imparted to all of us.
