
Obituary of Sandra Jean Swan
Sandy Swan, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7th after a courageous battle with the effects of Alzheimer's disease. Her family, friends, and all who knew her will deeply miss her kind spirit, warmth, and the steadfast love she shared with everyone she met. Sandy was a loving mother to Tim Swan and Melissa Perry, nurturing them with care and instilling in them the values of love and resilience. Tim and his two children, Ricky and Devon, were a great source of joy for Sandy. Likewise, Melissa's three children, Gavin, Abbey, and Brantley, experienced her affection and endless support. Sandy's role as a devoted grandmother filled her with happiness, and she treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren, always making them feel valued and deeply loved. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pat Darby; stepfather, Jack Darby; father, Jim Vanderpool; stepmother, Jenny Vanderpool; and beloved sister, Barb Gardner. Sandy is survived by a large and loving family, including her siblings: Gloria Decker (NY), Linda Keehan (NY), Deb Correll (KS), Judy Darby (NY), Jean Willard (NY), Jim Vanderpool (TN), and Bill Vanderpool (MO). She was a cherished sister who held a special bond with each of them, and her love for family extended far and wide. Known for her generosity, gentle nature, and unwavering love, Sandy touched the lives of many. She was a devoted friend, a caring neighbor, and a steady source of kindness. Her legacy will continue in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, April 10th from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Her Celebration of Life will follow at 5:00 pm where her family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Sandy's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Alzheimer's research in her honor, ensuring that her memory continues to inspire hope and healing for others.
