Obituary of James E. Orsillo
James E. Orsillo
Age 85, founder and CEO of Orthstar Enterprises, died unexpectedly on May 2, 2025. He is predeceased by his parents, Giacomo Orsillo and Irene Orsillo Stemerman, and sister June Sawester. He is survived by his daughter, June Lynn Orsillo, grandchildren Conor and Emelee Orsillo Null, and several cousins. Orthstar was the first business located in the Airport Corporate Park in Big Flats, NY. It was a high-level software engineering company involved extensively with aerospace and rail. Some of Orthstar's projects included submarine systems, military aircraft, military helicopters, apollo and space shuttle, antiballistic missile defense, rail simulators, and automation and robotics systems. Jim was a private plane and helicopter pilot and avid polo player. He had a love for animals, particularly dogs, cats and horses, all of whom he provided with loving homes. His love for mathematics resulted in his inventing a new form of algebra, Thread Analysis, which he utilized in some of his engineering projects. He was an avid reader, and well versed in history, especially interested in World War I and II, and was a life-long supporter of our military. In spite of his strong background in science and technology, he was a science fiction enthusiast. Jim was the author of two books: Mindstorm, a history of his life and family, and Thread Systems, a mathematic description of Thread Analysis. Following his 85th birthday, Jim entered the following thought in his computer: I am 85. Much to my surprise, I am doing quite well. Still waking up at 5 am to take care of Comanche (The last of the herd). I continue to do research in history, mathematics and engineering. My grandson is still living with me, working on his Engineering Degree. As I get older, I discover that I cannot do the physical things I did when I was younger. I keep trying not to let "the old man out". A favorite quote: "Lifeā¦moments lost in time, like tears in rain". I will enjoy my moments. Love, Jim
Jim had a vibrant personality, positive attitude, love for life, and brilliant mind. He will be sorely missed.
