John L. Carr
Age 93 of Big Flats, NY. John was born June 20, 1932 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Clifford M. and Mildred L. (Bennett) Carr. He passed away on Monday, August 4, 2025.
John served in the Army during the Korean war from 1952 to 1954. Back home, he went to work for Thatcher and Anchor Glass for over 30 years. He then spent decade as a corrections officer, stationed at Livingston Correctional Facility.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his loving wife Theresa in 2019. He is survived by their daughter and son-in-law Debra & Mark Hughson; grandchildren Susan (Hughson) & Jeremy Walker, Mary Smith, Mark & Ami Hughson, Jr.; great grandchildren Andria, Presley, Jeremy Jr., and Jocelyn Walker, Theresa Smith, Aurora & Caelan Brokaw and Ivan Hughson; great great grandchildren Betty Visger, and Lillyanna Dallas; sisters Catherine VanZile, and Helen Cramer; along with many dear friends and extended family. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 10 to 11 am. His funeral service will be held there at 11 am. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
