William J. Misnick, Sr.


Age 92 of Corning, NY. He was born September 4, 1933 in Elmira, NY, son of the late John and Eva (Obuhanych) Misnick and passed away Thursday, October 9, 2025. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Gloria B. Misnick on March 24, 2025 and is survived by his sons William J. (Stacey) Misnick, Jr and Edward J. (Mary) Misnick both of Corning, NY; grandchildren Joshua Carson, Damion Haight, Brittany Misnick and Natalia Misnick; brother George (Kay) Misnick of Horseheads, NY along with several nieces and nephews. Bill graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School where he was a standout football player and was inducted into the Elmira Heights Sports Hall of Fame. He also graduated from Clarkson University with a Bachelors and Masters degrees. He retired from Dresser Rand (formerly Ingersol Rand). During the flood of 72, he was stranded on top of his office at Ingersol Rand while shutting the plant down before the water came. He had to be rescued from the roof. He was a very active member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Corning Sister Cities – Corning, NY & Lviv, Ukraine. There is a Diabetic Children's Clinic in Ukraine named in their honor. He and Gloria were the co-chairs of the Lviv Ukraine Committee of the Corning Sister Cities; they developed the UTOS Library for the Blind in Lviv; adopted School #4 in Lviv which specializes in teaching English to the students. They sponsored the award winning musical group Zabava in Lviv through the Corning Sister Cities Lviv Ukraine Committee. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict where he was a Boxer. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E., the Catholic War Veterans Club and the East Corning Fire Department and was an avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, October 16th from 4 to 7 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Friday, October 17th at 9:30 am, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 am in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rev. Teodor B. Czabala, Jr., Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
