Howard A. Harris
was reunited with the love of his life, Barbara (Bailey) Harris and met his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, November 17, 2025. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather and friend to many, he was born May 9,1932 to Leroy and Ida (Bell) Harris in Reading, NY. He met Barbara and they married August 2, 1954 after he served 3 years (March 1,1950 – February 28,1953) in the U.S. Army, spending most of that time in Germany during the Korean Conflict as an artillery specialist and then a truck driver. He continued driving trucks throughout his life, both locally and cross-country, and even owned his own tractor for a season. Howard loved to hunt and fish with family and friends, as well as vacationing in Cape Hatteras. He and Barbara enjoyed bowling, going on cruises, and traveling the U.S. in their RV, visiting 47 of the 50 states. Howard was predeceased by his wife Barbara, his son Timothy S. Harris SFC US Army, son-in-law Louis Rubin MSGT US Army, his sisters Louise Fox, Iva Jennings, Thelma Hoyt, brothers Walter, Clayton, Gordon, Charles and twin brother Harold. Howard is survived by his children Linda Rubin, with Heather Flewelling and Amy Flewelling with their families; David (Mary) with Michelle (Dan) Capawana and Jonathan (Crystal) and their families; Iva (Jerry) Flewelling with Tyler (Brianne) Flewelling; Susan (Mark) Cicci with Christina (Marshall) Godbold, Joseph, Steven, and Jordyn and their families; Michael (Lisa French) with Angellica Rolley, Jessica Trotter and their families; daughter in law Kim Harris (Tim) with Timothy Jr. and Rebecca (Mike) Nelson with their families. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, November 28th from 11:00 am 12:00 pm. His funeral service will follow the visitation at 12 pm (noon). Lay Pastor John P. Knapp will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest with his wife Barb. The Chemung County Veteran's Honor Guard will accord Military Honors to Mr. Harris. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the Harris family.
