Daniel Joseph Stowell

Age 77 of Elmira, NY. Dan died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 surrounded by his family after a very short battle with ALS. He was born in Elmira, NY, a son of Jack and Alice (Westlake) Stowell. Dan was predeceased by his parents, his son Eddie in 2018 and his brother Jackie in 1953. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lolly Overton Stowell; son Dan with wife Donna of Webster, NY and Dan's children Lilly (Rodrigo) and Luke, and their mother Kimberlie Merritt; son Bill with wife Robyn of Elmira and their children Ryan and Brendan; sisters Katie Stowell and Martha (Bill) Reynolds; brother Barney (Cheryl) Stowell; sister-in-law JoAnn Malone (Jack) and brother-in-law John Overton (Phyllis); step grandchildren Samantha Nichols, Elizabeth and Melissa Ott as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dan relished following his grandkids in their sports, music and theater activities. He was a 1966 graduate of Notre Dame High School; retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility in 2003 after 33 years. He was a communicant of the Parish of the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Dan enjoyed hiking in the woods, making his own beer and wine and swimming in the glens and lakes of the Finger Lakes region. Per Dan's wishes, services will be private.
