Lucian J. Carter, also known as "Luke", 70, of Pennsylvania Ave in Elmira, New York passed away Friday, May 15, 2026 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Luke was born June 24, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the late son of Richard and Carrie Wallace. Luke is preceded in death by his sister Asia Carter. Luke moved to Elmira from Baltimore where he attended Elmira Free Academy. Upon graduation, he attended Elmira College where hew majored in political science. He worked numerous jobs in Elmira and later moved to Syracuse, New York where he spent many years. Luke returned to Elmira for the remainder of his life. Luke was loved and friended by many people in Baltimore, Elmira and Syracuse. He was an avid lover of music and enjoyed playing the drums. Luke enjoyed family cookouts and loved to grill and make special dishes. Luke also loved to ride his bike.


Luke is survived by a lifelong companion of 50 years, Bettye Irvin; his brother Willis Brown; best friend Linda Irvin and granddaughter Tia Irvin. Luke was influential in the life of many other grands and great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews. Luke was known for his story telling. Luke was loved by many.
