Obituary of Gina Chalk

CHALK, Gina Age 87 of Elmira, NY. She was born January 1, 1931 in Elmira, daughter of the late Vincenzo G. and Carmela (Cardillo) Maria and passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018 peacefully surrounded by her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John F. Chalk in 1982 and sisters Livia (Nick) LePere, Geppina (Ray) DePue and brother Antonio Maria. She is survived by her children Gina (Kelly Patrick) Golden of Elmira, John A. Chalk of Elmira, Paul (Wendy) Chalk of Corning, Peter (Kim) Chalk of Elmira and Lisa (Patrick Poppleton) Chalk of Elmira; grandchildren Kevin, Shannon, John, Andrew, Matthew, Amanda, Brittany, Ashley, Joseph, Kelly and Ella; 20 great grandchildren; sister Ida Maria of Pine City; brother Vincenzo (Jan) Gianinni of Pine City along with many nieces and nephews. Gina was a long time, active communicant of St. Cecilia's and Ss. Peter & Paul churches; retired from Top's Supermarket; loved reading and writing; was a volunteer for Hospice; but most of all was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who loved family gatherings. Despite all of her health problems, she never gave up and continued to be strong. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, May 3rd from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Prayers will be offered there at 11:30 am, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in Ss. Peter & Paul Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
