Obituary of Eleanor Sherman

SHERMAN, Eleanor, nee Simbaliski Age 88 of Elmira Heights, NY. She was born September 17, 1929 in Elmira, daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Wolosonovich) Simbaliski and passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her children Eileen Marie Burdick, Joseph Henry Sherman and Michael Henry Sherman; granddaughter Rachael Jo Brown; siblings and their spouses William (Betty) Simbaliski and Mary (Jay) Harris; and Henry Andrus Sherman, her former spouse who remained a lifelong friend. Eleanor is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Roxanne and Robert Brown; son-in-law Kevin Burdick; grandchildren Kristen (Jeffrey) Wolowitz, Michelle (Adam) Swift, Andrew (Jayne) Brown, Aleksandr (Victoria) Brown, Katie (Michael) Barnes, Taylor Sherman and Brenna Sherman along with 11 great grandchildren; nieces Louanna Harris Spivey and Candy Simbaliski Zentz. She was a lifelong resident of Elmira Heights, graduating From Thomas Edison High School in 1946. Eleanor was the first woman to be awarded a Motorola Service Station designation circa 1958; she owned and managed CESCo Communications, Inc. for 30 years. Her successful endeavors included setting up the first mobile telephone service in the Chemung County area; the development of the first nationwide advanced life support Shock Mobile owned by Erway Ambulance Service, and a major contribution during the flood of '72 when she devoted her entire company staff and assets to the rescue and relocation of Chemung County's emergency management and law enforcement radio equipment. She was a giving woman who donated to many worthy causes. Of lasting pride to her family was her donation of the first infant incubator at the Arnot Ogden Memorial Hospital's Neonatal Center. She was also an avid pet person, never without her kitties and puppies. In light of this, her family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Eleanor's favorite charities: St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a local SPCA/animal shelter. There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 19th at 10 am in St. Charles Borromeo Church. Rev. Scott Kubinski, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery. Her family thanks the staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for their love and kindness during her stay there.
