Janet Jennings

Obituary of Janet K. Jennings

Age 81 of Elmira, NY. She was born March 29, 1942 in Columbia, SC, daughter of the late Frank Kazmierski and Thelma (Turner) Bullock and passed away Monday, October 2, 2023 at the Corning Center for Rehabilitation. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather Jerry Bullock, her husband James Marvin Jennings, MD and her beloved family pets. She is survived by her children Joye Jennings (John) Bean, James Eric "Rick" Jennings and Jerry Edmund "Jay" Jennings; granddaughters Victoria Pasqua-Luciano and Cameron Jennings; special friends Cathleen Jenkins and Nancy Narosky along with many other friends. She spent most of her life in Columbia, SC graduating from Columbia High School and Columbia Hospital School of Xray Technology, where she met her husband. She was a housewife and stay at home mom but for some years was employed with Southern Bell Telephone Company as an operator and a salesperson for the Yellow Pages. Later she was employed in food service at Willard Psychiatric Hospital in Willard, NY and the American Legion in Elmira. Janet did a great deal of volunteer work, both in S. Carolina and New York. She was an outgoing lady who never met a stranger. She enjoyed many things including trips to Myrtle Beach, SC, bingo, both professional and local sports including hockey, baseball, football and NASCAR. She also enjoyed visiting casinos and playing the lottery. Janet was always up for a board game or a card game, especially with her best friend Terry Smith of Ovid, NY. She was a lifetime member of the VFW as well as a member of the American Legion for many years. She was most certainly considered a "GRITS" (girls raised in the South); retaining her Southern drawl her entire life; always having her hair and make up well done; loving Carolina beach music, Southern food, and, of course, her favorite, sweet tea. Private services will be held at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Janet through donations to a pet charity of choice or the American Lung Association.
