Obituary of Gregory V. Long

Our Beloved Father, Son, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, cousin, and friend Gregory Long left this world unexpectedly on January 21, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, NY on February 14, 1962 to George Long and Mary King. Gregory grew up in Queens, NY where he attended Martin VanBuren High School. Around that time he met Theresa Alston in the late 70's and they began their own family. To which they had two sons, Lamont and Jamal. Gregory went on to join the United States Navy in 1982 of which he was honorably discharged. He then went on to work at Creemore Hospital. In 1987 he met Sharon and his Step-daughter Yanique. In 1989 they married and in 1990 Gregory Long Jr. was born. Gregory was a huge fan of all sports and loved playing spades with his family and friends. He loved to do work with his hands, whether it be on cars or home improvements, but especially when it came to helping his family. Gregory leaves behind his sons Lamont, Jamal, Little Greg, his step-daughter Yanique. Grandchildren Briana, Nasir, Sincere, Nyia, Trisade, and Treydon. Mother Mary King. Brothers George and Gary, Sisters Marilyn and Sabrina, and a flee of cousins, nieces, nephew, and friends. Gregory brought so much joy to so many lives, his laugh will forever live on. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, February 2nd from 12 to 1 pm. His funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
