Obituary of Robert Allen

ALLEN, Robert Age 79 of Elmira, NY, passed away on Saturday July 9, 2016 surrounded by loved ones. Robert was born in Elmira, NY to Willie Mae and Sunnie Allen on June 20, 1937. He served in the US Air Force 1955-1961, stationed at Kelly AFB, San Antonio, TX and including overseas deployment. He attended Corning Community College. Robert worked in glass manufacturing at Corning Glass prior to many years as a supervisor at the US Post Office, Elmira Distribution Center from which he retired. Robert was a lifelong member of the Queen City Lodge of the IPBOE 174, serving as an officer for many years. He loved travel, basketball, walking at Eldridge Park, and the stock market. Robert is predeceased by his parents Willie Mae and Sunnie Allen, his siblings John Curtis Allen, Marie Allen, Lenora Parker, Harles Allen, Otis Allen, and childhood friends. He is survived by his daughters: Laura Allen-Pannell, Robin Allenturner, Ayanna Hughey, and Regina Callahan; by his grandchildren: Kiara, EJ, Evan, Isaiah, Sandi, and Ryan, Keenan, Kaiya, Reniecia, and Reanna; by his great granddaughter Aniya Rose; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and his closest lifetime friend, Elijah "Jr." Swayne. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira, on Friday July 15, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm and on Saturday July 16, 2016 from 10 to 11 am. The funeral service will be conducted upon conclusion of calling hours at 11am. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. It is requested that live plants be sent in lieu of flowers.
