Obituary of Nancy Louise Sheldon

Sheldon, Nancy Louise Age 68 of Elmira, NY. She was born in Corning, NY on October 25, 1951 and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 after battling with strength and courage against cancer at home. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Sheldon; children Rick (Jon) Blair of Oakland, CA, Mike Weldon of Ft. Meyers, FL, stepson BJ (Kim) Sheldon, Burdett, NY; several grandchildren she loved; mother Ellen P. Gitchell of Dunedin, FL; sister Roberta Gosney of Snellville, GA; brother Scott (Jan) Gitchell of Loganville, GA; and special nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Nancy's beloved sister, Mary Ellen Nichols, preceded her in death on July 30, 2019. She was a dedicated employee of NY State for close to 30 years retiring from the Elmira Psychiatric Center. She loved being an avid gardener and golfer and enjoyed her time volunteering for the Rotary Club and participating in various officer roles at the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Local 6083 and AmVets, Local 1313. She was truly the heart and soul of our family and will be greatly missed. Nancy had many great strengths. She was passionate about the love for her beloved husband, Don, her cats, and her home. She was a magnificent wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, never losing sight of what needed to be said and done to encourage and care for those she loved. She was bold and strong and confident and tough long before it was recognized as good traits for a woman. We have lost an extraordinary wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She deserves her rest in peace. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association in her honor. Her family would like to express gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Falck Cancer Center and University of Rochester, her care team at Carefirst Hospice, and to all her friends that she loved dearly. A memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family.
