Obituary of Carrie O. Powell

Powell, Carrie Ophelia Age 91 of Horseheads, NY. She was born April 30, 1921 in McCormick, SC daughter of the late Ellease and Griffin Wideman and departed this life on Friday April 12, 2013. Moving to Horseheads, NY in the early 1980's to be with her children; Carrie was a member of several Elmira churches. They were: St. Paul Baptist Church, Resurrection Tabernacle, and New Jerusalem. She also enjoyed many years in a bible study group led by Sister Rose Brown who she grew to love like a sister. Carrie is survived by her children: Bernadette Powell, Chester PA; Delores Powell Nicol (Cleavus Watts) Horseheads, NY and Raymond D. Powell of Horseheads; Grandchildren: Camille Denise Powell, Newark DE; Rockiesha Holland Rothwell, Chester PA; Maraya Carrie Powell Long Island, NY; 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her special niece Vivian Clark (Robert), Chester PA. She was predeceased by her sisters Catherine Davis, Detroit MI and Nancy Anderson, Chester PA and grandson Joel Powell. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, April 23rd from 10 to 11 am. Her funeral service will begin at 11 am. Rev. Ella Wells will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Her family would like to thank the staff of Elcor Nursing for their care and assistance. Their many kindnesses will always be remembered and appreciated.
