Obituary of Ira N. Scharborough

Ira Naomi "Kitty" Hughey Scharborough, born June 18,1946 went to be with the Lord August 20, 2020 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center after an extended illness. Ira was born in Elmira, NY, the fifth child of the late Rev. Leo Hughey Sr. and Mary Shirfield Hughey. Ira "Kitty" was a 1965 graduate of Elmira Free Academy and attended Corning Community College. She was married to Johnny Scharborough on December 8, 1967. She leaves to cherish her memories: sons Jerome Williamson (Kim) of Washington, DC, Brock (Sabrina) Scharborough of Elmira, NY, and daughters Agrien Renee Monroe, and Maranda Scharborough both of Elmira, NY and Best Friend, Phyllis Smith of Buffalo, NY. She was loved and adored by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ira was the fifth out of eight siblings; Leo Hughey Jr. (predeceased), Blanche Eldora Cruz-Bey (predeceased) Agnes Jean Brooks (predeceased). She is survived by brothers, John Hughey of San Jose, CA, Plesie Hughey of Binghamton and sisters, Nola Bridges of Elmira, and Nina Robinson of Poughkeepsie, NY. After 24 years of employment with Cornell Cooperative Extension as a Nutrition Teaching Assistant she retired in October 2011. Due to COVID-19, services will be private. A celebration of her life will be planned on a future date. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the Arnot Health Dialysis Unit for their exemplary level of care and compassion towards Ira during her years of treatment.
