Obituary of Joseph J. Rivers

RIVERS, Joseph J. Jr. Age 68 of Elmira, NY. He was born July 31, 1952 in Union Springs, AL, son of the late Joseph J. and Johnnie Mae (Clark) Rivers, Sr. and passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Gwendolyn Jasper and brother Felix (Jesse) Rivers. Joe is survived by his wife Debra Rivers; children Carnell Rivers, Delores Hamilton; sisters Brenda Rivers (Anthony) and Carolyn Rivers; sister-in-law Mary Rivers. Joe was a migrant worker from Florida. He was a devoted hard worker and husband and father, He enjoyed riding his bike with his work equipment to do his odd jobs to help people in the community. Joe spoke to everyone, always making people laugh. Joe will truly be missed by all. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Monday, December 21st from 12 to 1 pm. His funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
