Obituary of Velma K. Evertts

EVERTTS, Velma K. Age 88 of Erin, NY. Velma was born January 11, 1934 in Endicott, NY, daughter of the late Clifford and Eva Wood and passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. She was predeceased by her husband Erwin W. Evertts, Jr. on November 5, 2019. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Frederick Burnside of Van Etten, NY; son Erwin W. Evertts, III of Victoria, TX; grandchildren Eric Tillotson of Syracuse, NY, Jesse (Haley Pantle) Tillotson of Van Etten, NY, Chad (Ashley Burnside of Bath, NY with their children Caleb and Connor, Dylan, Dallas and Jessica Evertts all of Victoria, TX; brothers George "Skip" (Linda) Woods of Rochester, NY and John (Linda) Wood of Longview, TX; special nieces and nephews Julia Yusko of Elmira, Shannon Woods of Rochester, NY, Daniel Evertts of Elmira and Mark Woods of Rochester, NY; dear friend Colleen Shaline of Elmira along with several other nieces and nephews. Velma retired from Gierston Tool after 46 years. Along with her husband, she enjoyed his Navy reunions, trips with the Erin Senior Citizens and casinos. She loved her pets, but most importantly, she was a strong woman and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Saturday, February 19th from 11 am to 1 pm. Her funeral service will follow at 1 pm. Interment will take place in Scotchtown Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember Velma through donations to the CCNF Activities Dept., 103 Washington St., Elmira, NY 14902. Cheryl would like to acknowledge the staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the wonderful care, love and compassion they gave to Velma during her stay there.
