Obituary of Randolph Mitchell

Randolph Mitchell was born April 30, 1929 to Annie Mitchell and Lafayette King in Fort Barnwell, NC. Mr. Mitchell departed this life at the age of 92 on March 13, 2022 in Elmira, NY. Mr. Mitchell received his education in Fort Barnwell, NC and proudly served in the United States Army. He married his love, Elizabeth Drew, on June 5, 1959. He was employed as a laborer until he moved to Montour Falls, NY and later Elmira, NY. He was employed as a cocoa grinder at the Atlantic and Pacific (A&P) factory in Horseheads, NY until his retirement. Mr. Mitchell was a member of the Resurrection Tabernacle until he was called home. Previously, he was a long-time faithful member at All Saints Home Church of God in Christ where he served as a deacon and trustee. He took pride in driving the church van for Sunday school service. He was proud of his relationship with his former pastor, Elder Cephus McGee Jr. Mr. Mitchell is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Mitchell and children: Donnie Drew (Anna Drew) of Albany, NY, Connie Mitchell-Robinson (Baltimore, MD), Shirley White (Elmira, NY), Linda Mitchell (Elmira, NY), Lisa Mitchell (Randallstown, MD), Lateefah Mitchell, (Hopewell, VA), Lyneesa Mitchell (Rochester, NY), Kenneth Mitchell, Roshad Mitchell, and Wraunti Mitchell of Elmira, NY; sister in laws: Mary Lewis (Elmira, NY) and Sarah Mitchell (Pomfret, MD); brother in laws: Robert Lewis (Elmira, NY) and Milton Lovett (Newfield, NY) and 16 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends including Isaiah Adams (Ike) one of his trusted confidants. Mr. Mitchell is predeceased by parents, sisters: Mildred Lovett, Sue Mae Green, Daisy King-Mills, brothers: Roy (Boot) Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, Roosevelt Mitchell, Paul Barnes and son in law, Calvin Robinson. Mr. Mitchell along with his wife had a love of gardening and was well known for their cabbage collard plants. He took great pride in bringing many of you, his harvest. Prior to the pandemic Mr. Mitchell enjoyed meeting with his buddies at Burger King nearly every morning for their morning coffee and "daily discussions". Mr. Mitchell was a soft-spoken man with a great work ethic who never hesitated to greet someone or lend a helping hand utilizing his easily distinguishable red truck. He was well known in the community and loved by all. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Monday, March 21st from 10 to 11 am. His funeral service will be held at 11 am. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
