Obituary of Mary Barton

Mary Barton Born August 25, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Pastor Carrie Mae Moss and John Morris, Mary passed peacefully on Thursday evening, April 28, 2022 at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester, NY. Mary leaves to cherish this life a sister Audrey Moss-Stanly; sons Elijah Joe Jr. (Charlene), Reverend Michael Joe Sr. (Alamenia), Sonny A. Barton (Melissa); daughter Deborah A. Russell (Charles). Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Mary is predeceased by two children, Brian and Vincent; two sisters, Earline Stephens and Rachel Moss and one brother, James Hansley. Mary moved to Elmira in June 1960. Her first job was an elevator operator at Izards Department Store. Always a hard worker, she would eventually start her own rest home business in her home in 1969. Her faith inspired drive, compassionate spirit and passion for caring for others would inspire her to purchase 301 Grove Street giving birth to Barton's Adult Home. She would successfully operate this business until her retirement in 2005. Barton's Adult Home was one of the highest rated rest homes in the state. Taking care of others was Mary's god given talent. No corners were ever cut. She took pride in ensuring that her residents had the best. Barton's Adult Home was truly "A Home Away From Home." While Mary's family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Mary in a way that honors her spirit. Family and friends are invited Word of Faith Church, 356 W.
