Obituary of Geraldine G. Stocum

Geraldine G. "Gerry" Stocum Age 89 of Elmira, NY. She was born October 9, 1932 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph W. and Harriet P. (Bridgeman) Rhode and passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022. In addition to her parents Geraldine was predeceased by her siblings Hershel Rhode, Joseph Rhode Jr., Alice Runkle, and Florence Rhode. She is survived by one son: Charles (Sharon) Marshall; beloved granddaughters Sabrina (Michael) Smith, with their daughter Harper Grace Smith, and Faith (Trevor) Karnes, with their children Ashlyn & Addison Karnes; along with several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Gerry was known for her "servant's heart." She was an incredible, loving, kind, and determined woman who raised her family as a single mother, but would still find herself willing to provide help to all those who sought it. She was a longtime parishioner and Prayer Warrior with the Christian Life Baptist Church in Corning, NY. She spent 48 years working at the office of the Elmira Hearing Aide Center. In her time there, the business passed through 3 owners and Gerry came to be known as "the face of the office." Family and friends are invited to visit the Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., in Elmira, NY on Friday, July 8th from 10 AM to 12 PM. Her Celebration of Life will be held there 12:00 pm, with Rev. John Armstrong officiating. Committal and interment to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Elmira, NY.
