Woodard passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 4th, 2022, at age 93, after suffering with Alzheimer's/Dementia Disease. He was born to the late Elmer and Bertha (Macek) Woodard on March 19, 1929, which is also St. Joseph's Day, in Elmira, NY. He was truly a Saint and a gentleman. He is survived by his wife Nanette J. (Stone) of 69 years, his six "rotten" KIDS whom he was extremely proud of: Valerie (Brent) Sharp, Terrie Ames, Amy Woodard-Williams (John), Cynthia (Charles) Kimbell, Jr., Joseph Woodard, Jr., Christine (Todd) Wilkinson, his grand and great grandchildren: Brent and Brittany Sharp, Ashley and Annabella Ames-Bernard, Melissa, Abigail and John Williams II, Brandon, Nikki, Nolan, and Nash Clark, Sarah, Emmett and Eli Clark-Wilson, Courtney Woodard, and Stewart Wilkinson. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as a Sr. turret system mechanic gunner during the Korean War from 1947-1954, 341st Bomb Sq, 97th Bomb Gp. He received an engineering degree and worked as an engineer packaging designer for Hankins Container Co., which became MacMillian Bloedel, then changed to Weyerhaeuser, whereby he retired after 41 years. Jose' loved socializing and engaging with family and friends. He used to love to hunt, work on the farm a/k/a "The Ponderosa" and enjoy a cold one when all the work was completed. He was an active Post member at the American Legion #443, and CWV and a lifelong member of both. On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, services for Mr. Woodard will be conducted by Walter Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St., Elmira, NY. Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Funeral service at 12:00, and services will move to Forest Lawn Memorial Park where the Chemung County Veteran's Honor Guard will accord Mr. Woodard with Military Honors and Committal prayers will be offered. Directly following the service all family and friends are invited to gather at the Elmira American Legion Post #443, 316 Lake St., Elmira, NY for a celebration of life.
