Obituary
Obituary of Darnell Wilson, Sr.
On September 21, 2022, surrounded by his family, Darnell Wilson, Sr., aka Doc, age 66, was called home to be with our Lord. Darnell was born March 29, 1956. He was predeceased by his parents, George Wilson, Sr. and Annie E. Banks-Wilson, and his sister Ocie L. Wilson-Moore. He leaves behind his beloved son and daughter-in-law Darnell Wilson, Jr. & Karley Horton-Wilson of Elmira, NY, his cherished grandchildren Doc, Dante, Natalie, Trenton, and Jasmine, all of Elmira, NY; brothers Bill (Theresa) Banks, John (Tammy) Banks, George Wilson, Jr., George A. Wilson, BJ Wilson all of Elmira and Jackie Wilson of Binghamton; sisters Trellis A. Lamar of Ft. Pierce, FL, Barbara (Gerald) Shepard, Debra Wilson, Elizabeth (James) Banks, and his brother-in-law John Moore, all of Elmira; aunts Helen Wilson and Barbara J. Wilson both of Miami, FL; uncle Robert Wilson of Lawrence, KS, along with a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins, and Zaria Thomas who has always been like a daughter to him. Doc was a true fisherman at heart, and was called "The Fishing Legend of Elmira by many. When he wasn't busy providing guidance to the young, shopping or motoring around town on his scooter he could always be found fishing in his favorite spot - the Madison Avenue bridge in Elmira. People would drive over the bridge, shout out or waive to him, and even exit their vehicles to assist him if he was in need. Someone was always going over that bridge just to check on him. He was a beautiful soul and always had a fun, upbeat spirit, in spite of his disabilities. His faith was deeply rooted in the Lord. Rain or shine he usually made his way across town to church on his scooter. He had a true passion for life and rarely complained or let anything get him down. Doc is loved by so many and will be truly missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the loving care that they extended to him.
