She was born March 14, 1945 in Elmira, daughter of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Mace) Thomas and passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at Elcor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was predeceased by her 1st husband Pasquale J. Cardinale, Sr., son Pasquale J. Cardinale, Jr and sisters Dolores (Charles) Glover & Sharon (Paul) Vose. Carol is survived by her husband Robert Plate; children Tony (Gloria) Cardinale, Pam Woolman, Jeff (Sue) Cardinale, Joe Cardinale, Tim (Kelley) Philo & Mark Philo; daughter-in-law Jodi Cardinale; grandchildren Jacob, Caleb, Mason, Dominic, Mario, Chloe & Chad Cardinale, Gina & Nick Woolman, Todd (Stephanie) Seeley, Ashley (Jeremy) Evans, Courtney Kemmerer, Breana (Anthony) Gianelli & Jadin (Brian) Hunter; several great grandchildren; sisters Rita (George) Bond & Peggy (Harold) Carr; brother Gary (Amy) Thomas. Carol retired from the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. She loved reading and sharing books with her daughter-in-law Susan and sisters Rita and Peggy. She loved dogs so much she always adopted from shelters and could never decide on one, so she always adopted two at a time. Her other loves were baking at holidays, especially fudge and her grandkids favorite "Buckeyes". She loved shopping, eating out and Yankees baseball (so how fitting the afternoon she passed away, Aaron Judge hit that record tying #61 homer), but most of all, she loved her family and was constantly talking about her grandchildren who she so very much adored. "Mom…gonna miss you terribly. We all love you, your family". Family and friends are invited to her graveside service at Woodlawn National Cemetery, 1825 Davis St., Elmira on Tuesday, October 4th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations in Carol's name to Compassionate Companion Care, 204 Hendy Creek Rd, Pine City, NY 14871 or local animal shelter.
