Obituary of Ralph A. Newman

Ralph A. Newman II Age 74 of Elmira, NY. He was born April 14, 1948 in Washington, DC, son of the late Ralph A. and Flexia (Canty) Newman and passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Vivian Newman and brother-in-law John Emanuel. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Francelia (Emanuel) Newman; children Derek Miller of VA, Bridget (Derek) Gilcrest of Columbia, MD, Jerome (Jessica) Emanuel of Elmira and Kirk (Christina) Newman of Elmira; several grandchildren and great grandchildren including special granddaughter Alena Emanuel; siblings Karl (Jeanne) Newman of Tampa, FL, Kim (Paul) Lytle of Columbia, MD and Darren Newman of Tampa, FL; brother in law Mark Emanuel and Stephen Ashford and sister in law Weonia Emanuel all of Elmira and Deanna Ashford of SC. He is also survived by his best friends Anthony Suggs, Carlos Hamlin and Michael Pearson along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Ralph retired from Traveler's Insurance after 27 years of service. Prior to that he worked for the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller. He was a true gentleman and very well respected by his family and friends. Ralph loved to make up nicknames for people he really cared about. He had a wonderful personality and was often sought out for his advice and opinions of which he honestly gave. He was a true "Redskins" fan and enjoyed watching sports. Ralph was definitely a person who will always be remembered for his wit and charm. He will truly be missed. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Wednesday, December 28th from 11 am to 12 noon. His memorial service will follow at 12 noon. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Arnot Ogden for the wonderful care they provided especially the nurses on 3C and the ICU.
