Obituary of Iwan Hucul

HUCUL, Iwan "John" Age 81 of Millport, NY. He was born January 17, 1932 in Ukraine, son of the late Michael and Dominica (Stasiv) Hucul and passed away Monday, October 14, 2013 at home after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; children Theresa (Peter) Solecky of Endicott, NY, Steven (Janette) Hucul of Horseheads, Pauline (Timothy) Clark of Horseheads; grandchildren Andrea (Jason) Smith, Nicholas (April) Solecky along with their father Andrew Solecky; Amanda Barends, Mallory (Brennan) Mosher, Zachary Hucul, Emily Clark and Matthew Clark; great grandchildren Isabella and Nathan Solecky, Austin and Emma Barends, Lucas and Jaxson Mosher; sisters Anastasia Kremel and Martha Magera both of Elmira; brother Wasyl (Joyce) Hucul of Horseheads along with several nieces and nephews. John was a communicant of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. He retired from American Bridge after 32 years and later worked for Elmira Floral Products. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during Korea; was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., the Catholic War Veterans and the Ukrainian American National Club all in Elmira Heights. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Thursday, October 17th from 4 to 7 pm. Panikhyda will be held at 6 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Friday, October 18th at 9:30 am, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 am in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. Rev. Robert Batcho, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may remember John through Donations to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church or CareFirst. Iwan's family would like to thank Dr. Mauri, the Dialysis staff at Ivy Medical and CareFirst, especially Debbie and Courtney for the compassionate care they all provided to John.
