Obituary of Sophie A. DiCinti
Sophie A. DiCinti passed away at home on All Saints' Day surrounded by her loving family.
Born on Halloween 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to Elmira with her husband Joseph in the late 1940s before settling in Horseheads in 1960.
Sophie is survived by her children, Joseph Jr. (Sandy), Christine (Frank), and John; her grandchildren, Amanda, Grace (David), Zack, Nick (Jess) and Parker; and her great grandchildren, Jonathan and Emily. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Sr., and her sisters, Anna and Emily.
Sophie earned her greatest joy through feeding friends, old and new — her many years serving at Rudy's Restaurant, opening her dream restaurant Quik Quisine, and catering to never-ending guests at countless parties at home.
Sophie lived her 96 full years nourishing family (related or not), hosting holidays (real and imagined), adoring her pets (even Elvis), playing blackjack (all night if she could), clapping for her Mets (haplessly), creating laughter and joy in every situation (sometimes accidentally), and always (always) offering everything she could to anyone who needed it.
No obituary can do her justice. But memories can.
Donations can be made in Sophie's name to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 388 Upper Oakwood Ave., Elmira, NY 14903, or Horseheads Animal Shelter, 150 Wygant Rd., Horseheads, NY 14845. Celebration to come at the family's convenience, date to be determined. Arrangements by Walter J. Kent Funeral Home.
