Tolson, Jr. and Ruth Virginia Tolson Stevens. Robert received his education in the King William County School System where he graduated from Hamilton High. Robert later earned his degree at Morgan State University. Robert went on to join the United States Army where he received veteran status with an honorable discharge. Robert later relocated to New York City where he was employed by New York Bell Telephone Company. It was in New York that he met and married Betty Ann Morman. Upon their retirements they relocated to Elmira, New York. Robert was predeceased by both of his parents; his brother Bruce Tolson; his wife Betty Ann Tolson (2012) and his special friend Chanetta Mason (2023). Robert leaves to mourn his passing his son Robert W. (Susanna) Tolson IV of Bronx, New York; two daughters Mary (Michael) Gray of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Jan Tucker of Mount Vernon, New York; five brothers James (Linda) Tolson of Delaware, Rudolph (Venus) Tolson of Virginia, Robert (Bobby) Tolson, Percy Tolson and Darnell Tolson all of Baltimore, Maryland; three sisters Dorinda Tolson, Ophelia Tolson and Coretha Tolson all of Baltimore, Maryland; 8 grandchildren Sophia, Isaiah, Jamel, Sr. (Erika), Michelle (Casey) Melanie (Guy), Kevin, Jr., Jane`t, Michael, Jr. (Elizabeth; God children Tyri and Jedin; 14 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Robert had many passions in life, like traveling, horseback riding and dancing, however, his biggest passion was spending endless weeks with his grandchildren who fondly called him "Gramps", "Boobie", and most importantly "Champ". His love for boxing and Muhammed Ali became his trademark. The Champ was a debonair Cadillac man who loved to be the sharpest tack in the room. No knockouts Champ. It's just the last rodeo, so lasso up, ride high. We'll miss you forever. See you later in that great corral beyond. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Wednesday, January 3rd from 2 to 4 pm. His funeral service will be held at 4 pm. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will take place Thursday, January 4th at Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
