Very very saddened to learn today of, our neighbor of many years, Chuck's passing. Still think of him sitting on the porch smoking his cigar as his many friends honked their horns and shouted hello from their cars as they drove past on Oakwood Avenue. I will never forget the day Jean was cleaning the gutters and fell from the ladder and Chuck was the first one there and then sat with me in the emergency room. The next thing we knew he had sent someone over to clean the gutters so the same thing wouldn't happen again! The house is silent now next door since he and Laurie moved down the street and now even more empty since January 5th. Sincere condolences to Laurie and all of Chuck's family. He was one of the good guys

I can not say that there was one minute I didn’t enjoy with Mr Derr from High School Coach to friend, he was a blessing. Always loved to see him and chat. He is loved and will be missed deeply. Many blessings to his family. We will be sending something in his name to the ST Canine. Let’s go Steelers my friend. I will be thinking hard of you this Sunday.

Chuck achieved a great deal in athletics during his life. But he was unsurpassed in his humanity. Always gregarious and affable, and a natural jokester, he was our EFA '75 class leader in enthusiasm and school spirit. His popularity and friendship extended well beyond Elmira. Everyone could count on a friendly message, a warm remark, or simply a bear hug from Chuck. The most optimistic, infectious positve attirtude of anyone I've ever known. Chuck was Elmira's best ambassador. The large testimony from innumerable friends speaks of the huge hole in our lives that Chuck leaves behind. Charlie S.

My sincere condolences, Laurie, on Chuck's passing. As Abraham Lincoln said "It's not the years in your life; it's the life in your years." Although gone too soon, Chuck certainly had a great deal of "life" in his years. I forget where I read this but it gave me comfort when Bob passed .......
Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day; unseen, unheard, but always near, still greatly loved, still missed and forever very dear.
May you find a measure of comfort in the many years you had together and the memories you have to reflect upon.

I taught Chuck at Booth in 69-70 when he won the punt, pass and kick contest. We were all so proud of him.

I am sadden by this news. I worked with Chuck in the recreation department at Elmira Correctional Facility for about six years and in that time I learned a lot from Chuck. He was always good to me and I had a great deal of respect for him. My condolences to the family and friends of Chuck. He will be missed.

He was always smiling and bigger than life! When we would visit the Jack & Pat Kane family on Elm Street the highlight was going outside to watch their neighbor and hero to us all punt a football over a few houses and halfway down Elm Street! So sorry Laurie. ❤️
