Obituary of Doris Jean Hill

Doris J. Hill, of Sebring, FL, formerly of Pine City, NY, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on August 2nd, 1936, in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late George N. and Anna Lois (Finch) Hill. Doris was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth E Hill, of Pine City. Doris is survived by her sister-in-law Phyllis M. (Congdon) Hill, and her beloved nephews Kevin Hill, Keith (Cindee) Hill, Kerry (Dona) Hill, their families and extended family. Known for her kindness and deep love for Jesus, Doris dedicated over two decades of her life as a missionary with Sudan Interior Missions (SIM). While in West Africa, she taught at Kent Academy Missions School in Nigeria and Sahel Academy Missions School in Niamey, Niger before retiring. Beyond her missionary work, Doris was an avid reader, a skilled pianist and organist, and took joy in gardening. Her passion for family history led her to curate a small museum at her home, reflecting her commitment to preserving cherished memories. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, January 26th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Her memorial service will follow at 6 pm. Lay Pastor and family friend, John P. Doris will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be laid to rest in the Elmwood Cemetery at the convenience of her family.
