Obituary of Barbara L. Squires

Barbara L. Squires Age 57 of Elmira, NY passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 unexpectedly. Barb is the youngest of seven children born to the late Cassius and Margaret (Edmister) Squires. She is survived by her brothers Jeff Squires and Gary Squires; sisters Pat Squires and Joan Campbell all of Elmira and Sue VanTreese of Thurston. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, many terrific friends & colleagues and caring church family. Barb had a long career in accounting, sharing that passion with students at Corning Community College. There she had served as a delegate to the FCCC. Barb was also a proud union member, serving as Treasurer and on the negotiating team for the local PECCC, part of NYSUT. She shared her fondness for tax law with many in our community where she was known as the Tax Nerd and worked with a wonderful team at Williams Capital. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elmira where she was a Ruling Elder and Clerk of Session for many years. Barb loved to travel and shared those experiences with many. She visited all 50 states and enjoyed many historical sites and our national parks. Her travels usually included time spent with friends, both long term and new. Family and friends are invited to visit the First Presbyterian Church of Elmira, 1054 W. Clinton St., Elmira on Sunday, May19th from 2 to 4 pm. Her funeral service will follow immediately. Rev. Lynn Rubie-Capron will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will be held on Monday, May 20th at 11 am in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads where she will be laid to rest with her parents.
