Obituary of Dona M. Erickson

Dona Marie Ackerman Erickson, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 23, 2024. Dona was born November 11, 1929 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Frances and Mildred Thompson Ackerman. Dona is predeceased by her loving husband Donald H. Erickson and beloved sons Mark K. Erickson and Bruce T. Erickson. Dona graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in 1947. She married her husband, Donald H. Erickson on July 10, 1949 at Oakwood United Methodist Church in Elmira Heights, NY. Throughout Dona's life she was active in the Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council, the Arnot Ogden Hospital Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society and a lifelong member of Oakwood UMC serving on many of its committees. Dona is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Karen Chapman of Amherst, NH and Sue & Troy Traynham of Spring Hill, FL; daughters-in-law: Donna Seneca Erickson of Crestview, FL and Carol Said Erickson of Elmira, NY; grandchildren: Julie & Thomas Feenaughty of Nichols, NY, Anne & Tim Harms of Clinton Township, MI, Kyle & Karen Erickson of Elmira Heights, NY, Heather & Jeff Vaughn of Crestview, FL, Craig Cathers of Minneapolis, MN, Matthew & Jennifer Cathers of Yonkers, NY, Scott & Alicia Erickson of York, PA, Theresa & Miles Winkfield of Buffalo, NY, Leann Erickson of Elmira, NY, Jerris & Matthew Falk of Amherst, NH, Garrett & Kayla Traynham of Clermont, FL and Alyssa Traynham of Spring Hill, FL; great grandchildren: Colton & Reagan Erickson, Landon & Nicole Harms, Henry & Elena Cathers, Courtney, Levi & Mark Vaughn, Camden & Brooks Erickson, Gunnar & Hadley Falk and Falynn & Patrick Ringelman; sisters-in-law Linda Priester of E. Smithfield, PA and Sandra Erickson of Scottsville, NY along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Monday July 29, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at Oakwood United Methodist Church, 212 Oakwood Ave., Elmira Heights co-officiated by Pastor Mark Erway and Pastor Peter O'Neill. Interment will follow in the family plot in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira. The family will provide the flowers and requests that donations in Dona's memory may be made to the Oakwood UMC Food Pantry, 212 Oakwood Avenue, Elmira Heights, NY 14903 or to the Elmira Heights Historical Society, 266 E.14th Street, Elmira Heights, NY 14903
