Obituary of Ginger A. Sprague

Age 67, of Elmira, NY was born April 17, 1957 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Melvin L. and Margaret (Seymour) Sprague Jr. She passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility where she most recently resided. Her parents, Melvin and Margaret; brother, Melvin L. Sprague III; niece Diana Leonard preceded her in death. Survivors left to cherish her memory are her siblings: David Sprague, Terry Sprague and Christine and Robert Leonard Sr.; nephew, David (Gabrielle) Sprague II; nieces, Heather Sprague and Meagan Green; nephew, Robert Leonard II; along with several great nieces and great nephews. Ginger retired from the NYSDOC as a Corrections Officer after 25 years of dedicated service at the Elmira Reformatory. She had a big heart and was always willing to help. She volunteered often to help others regardless of their circumstances. She was also a fantastic cook. Family and friends are invited to call at the Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Her Memorial Service honoring her life will follow the visitation at 6 pm. Lay Pastor John P. Knapp will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA 2435 NY-352 Elmira, NY 14903.
