Obituary of Gloria Lorraine Ewsuk

Of Elmira Heights, NY was born March 6, 1928 and passed away peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024. Gloria Lorraine Ewsuk was a central figure in her large family and a talented seamstress who created treasured outfits that are still being passed down and worn today, as well as vestments for her beloved local Orthodox churches. A lifelong volunteer, she supported local organizations including the library, the Chamber of Commerce, and made thousands of pierogies for church fundraisers. Gloria traveled the world and took beautiful photographs. She loved gardening, solving thousand-piece jigsaw puzzles, decorating for Christmas, and sports. She insisted on walking everywhere and shoveling her own driveway well into her 80s. She worked at Marine Midland Bank and then Hardinge Inc. until retirement. Predeceased by her parents Constantine and Anna Ewsuk; siblings Katheleen Petrochko, Sonia Palladino, Gabriel Ewsuk and wife Lois, William Ewsuk and wife Joan; and nephew Mark Palladino. Gloria is survived by sixteen nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and -nephews, and brother-in-law John Palladino. We love our Aunt Glor and know there will never be another like her, and we know that her Memory Will Be Eternal. Family and friends are invited to visit Holy Trinity Orthodox Christian Church, 140 Horseheads Blvd., Elmira Heights. On Friday, October 4th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Panykhyda will begin at 7 pm. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 10 am in the church. Rev. Fr. David Cowan will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery.
