Obituary of John J. Palladino
John J. Palladino
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved family patriarch, John Palladino of Horseheads at the age of 96. He was born July 26, 1928 in Elmira, son of the late John and Stella (Rogus) Palladino and passed away Friday, October 11, 2024 unexpectedly. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Sonia in 2009 and son Mark in 1980; brother Joseph; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and William Rickard; nephew Rick Rickard; brother-in-law Geoffrey Sayers. He is survived by his children Susan (Martin) DiPetta of Pine City, John (Gale) Palladino of Millport and Anthony (Suzanne Blanchard) Palladino of Horseheads; grandsons Martin John (Caitlin) DiPetta with their children Grace and Louie, Joseph DiPetta and Michael (Susan) DiPetta with their children Anthony and Angelo; sisters Carmella Palladino and Patricia Sayers both of Elmira along with several nieces and nephews. John's working life began at the age of 12 when he joined his father and Uncle Angelo in various construction projects throughout the area including the Elmira airport, Mount Saviour Monastery, Hawthorn Court and several buildings at Cornell University. John retired from Westinghouse in 1993 after 32 years of dedicated service. A proud veteran, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For nearly 70 years John worked on his farm enjoying planting and harvesting his garlic, maintaining his hay fields, and preparing firewood for the winter. One of his favorite routines was driving into Elmira to have breakfast with family members each morning and gathering for Sunday dinners with his children. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, especially those who will always know him as "Pop". His faith, generosity and strong work ethic were certainly an inspiration to all. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home, 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira on Friday, October18th from 5 to 8 pm. Prayers will be offered there on Saturday, October 19th at 8:45 am, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Mary Our Mother Church, Horseheads. Rev. Christopher Linsler, Celebrant. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
