Paul Urda
Age 89, of South Waverly, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 29, 2024 after a short fight with cancer.
Paul was born on May 20, 1935 to Samuel and Anna Urda in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. After Paul graduated from Fell Township High School, he received an Associate Degree in mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University, Scranton. He spent two years in the Army as a Specialist, then started his first and only job at Ingersoll Rand in Athens, PA, where he worked as a mechanical designer for 40+ years. During that time, he was the recipient of three patents for safety devices.
In 1960, Paul married the love of his life, Mildred Fedorchak. Paul and Mildred went on to have two children, Lisa and David.
Paul was a quiet, kind, and gentle man with a wry sense of humor, who loved his family, his church, and the outdoors. He loved to hunt, fish, and grow fresh vegetables. Other hobbies included bowling, square dancing and cooking.
Paul was predeceased by his sister Eileen. He is survived by his wife Mildred, and his daughter Lisa Palmer of Washington Virginia, son David Urda and wife Shari of Honolulu, Hawaii and grandchild Alexander James (AJ) Palmer of Palo Alto, California.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Elmira, New York.
Family and friends are invited to visit the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 140 Horseheads Boulevard, Elmira Heights, NY, on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024 from 6 to 7 pm. Panykhyda will begin at 7 pm. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 7th at 10 am in the church. Rev. Fr. David Cowan will officiate. Committal prayers and interment will follow in St. Michaels Orthodox Cemetery, in Jermyn, PA. Walter J. Kent Funeral Home is assisting the Urda family.
