Obituary of Carol F. (Russell) Maher
Age 83, of Kinyon Street Elmira, NY went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2025 peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center with her son Peter at side. Born July 10, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Mary (Hathaway) Russell. Carol married her soulmate, John Richard Maher on May 11, 1963 at St. Cecilia's Church in Elmira, NY. They shared 38 years of love and companionship before John's passing on October 5, 2001. In addition to her husband, Carol was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Maher; son, Ted Maher Sr.; daughter-in-law, Sharon Maher, grandson, Daniel Maher; sisters, Shirley A. Nellis, Connie Reamer and Barbara Hefferon; brothers, Roy (Kate) Russell and Jack Russell; nephew, Donald Bishop; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Diane Maher and her cherished canine companions, "Missy" and "Bo." Carol is survived by her son Peter Maher of Elmira, NY; John Jr. and his wife Kathleen Maher and their children, Andrew and Kathryn Maher and Daniel (Amanda) Talvi of Breesport, NY; Michael Maher Chantilly, VA; grandchildren and great grandchildren from her late son Ted: Sean and his wife Cindy Maher, and their children Christian and Jackson; Jolean (Maher) Cain and her children Lauren and Morgan; Ted Maher Jr. and his fiancée Sarah. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a circle of dear friends. Carol retired after many years of devoted service as a bus driver with the Chemung County Transit Authority. She was known for her beautiful soprano voice and her talents as a songwriter and poet. Family and friends are invited to visit Walter J. Kent Funeral Home. 858 Lake St. at Washington Ave., Elmira NY on Monday January 27, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Carol's Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 11:30 am at Emmanuel Community Church 237 East Miller Street Elmira, NY at 11:30 am. Pastor Matthew Bedzyk will officiate. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn National Cemetery where Carol will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, John and her precious daughter, Mary.
